Meet Kal Glanznig
(before you vote for him!)

Kal Glanznig is a prominent youth leader in the community. As a Take 3 For the Sea ambassador, ambassador of St George Sutherland Shire Medical Research Association and creator of the documentary Rising Up, Kal was awarded Sutherland Shire Young Australian of the Year in 2020 and Environmental Citizen of the Year in 2023. His dedication to ocean conservation has seen him serve on the Youth Advisory Council for World Ocean Day and participate as a youth delegate and speaker at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2022 (Egypt) and 2023 (United Arab Emirates).

Kal was a student at Caringbah High School, and while a student Kal orchestrated the installation of a $100,000, 100kW solar panel system, inspiring over 20 schools to follow suit. Witnessing the detrimental effects of plastic pollution firsthand through his travels with the Australian junior water polo team and training in Gunnamatta Bay with the local Cronulla Sharks Water Polo team, he co-founded Plastic Free Cronulla in 2019. This initiative, in partnership with the Cronulla Chamber of Commerce, has garnered support from all levels of government and played a pivotal role in legislative bans on single-use plastics in NSW and Australia.

Kal has been an influential youth representative for the Sutherland Shire, contributing to the Cook Stronger Communities Grant panel and the Sutherland Shire Council Cronulla Mall Stakeholder Reference Group. He also helped deliver the Council’s Youth Climate and Biodiversity Forum for the past two years.

An alumnus of the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Commerce, Kal received numerous accolades, including the Blue & Gold Club scholarship and the UniBank Leaders Scholarship in 2021, as well as being named one of JCI Australia’s Ten Outstanding Young Persons in 2023. He is an honorary member of the Cronulla RSL for his contributions to sustainable practices.

Professionally, Kal served as General Manager of Delfina Sport, Australia’s leading custom swimwear company, from September 2021 to May 2024. During his tenure, he supported several Sutherland Shire aquatics clubs and athletes, including the Cronulla Sharks Water Polo Club, Cronulla SLSC and Olympic Diver Sam Fricker.
